CNC Programmer / Operator Machinist

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is actively searching for a CNC Programmer / Operator Machinist in the North Atlanta, GA area. This is a contract to hire 2nd Shift (4:00 PM - 12:00 AM) position and a great opportunity to join an industry leader.

The CNC Programmer / Operator Machinist will perform a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for total machine setup, programming, operation, maintenance, and safety.
  • Interpret complicated drawings of tooling, fixturing and machine components.
  • Perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances on CNC and Non-CNC equipment.
  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished work piece.
  • Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture properly and in a timely manner.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools for lathe and milling machining centers.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
  • Adjust machine feeds, speeds, and/or tooling to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions/conditions out of tolerance while operating in a safe manner.
  • Assemble tooling and/or material requirements to complete jobs, send quotations to outside vendors as needed, and follow up on outside contracted work until completion.
  • Maintain and clean tooling/parts/equipment, and to order replacement or PM items as required.
  • Observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.


  • 2+ years’ experience programming and operating a CNC machining center and CNC Lathe
  • 5+ years’ experience operating other machine shop tools and equipment (mill, lathe, surface grinder, etc.)
  • 2+ years’ experience with MasterCam, FeatureCam and/or comparable program
  • Turning center, HAAS and HAAS Milling experience a must
  • Ability to interpret complicated drawings of tooling, fixturing and machine components.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and direction.  Must be self-motivated and able to meet timelines as planned.
  • Ability to measure work piece for conformance to specifications.
  • Must be able to work frequent overtime as needed.
  • High school diploma (GED) or equivalent
  • Certification from technical school for basic machining, fabricating, and programming.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
