Job Description: 

The Design Development Technician will be responsible for building and fabrication of spacecraft, test setup and execution of spacecraft and spacecraft hardware development tests, assembly of complex mechanisms, and rework of engineering development units. The technician will work directly with engineers, work with engineering drawings and work instructions to accomplish tasks. 

Responsibilities: 

• Work closely with engineering to build spacecraft thru verbal requests, free form drawings, detailed blueprints, work instructions and three-dimensional drawings. 
• Setup and perform complex, precision characterization tests, including structural, thermal, optical, and RF measurements. 
• Assemble and rework engineering prototypes. 
• Be able to assemble and rework spacecraft hardware and mechanisms in innovative, highly detailed, high-quality manner. 
• Fabrication of test fixtures to support engineering design and testing. 
• Assist with development of production processes for first time production environment. 
• Meet demanding schedule deadlines in a high quality manner. 
• Comply with ESD standards 
• Comply with FOD sensitive areas and parts. 
• Use computer to record work performed on shop floor management system as well as use of e-mail. 

Basic Qualifications: 

• Associates degree in a technical field 
• 5+ years of experience as technician in an engineering support role. 
• Demonstrated experience in setting up and operating precision measuring equipment. 
• Demonstrated experience in fine mechanical assembly. 
• Ability to read complex blueprints and assembly procedures 
• Experience designing and fabricating test fixtures. 
• Experience using various types of hand tools, hand-held power tools, floor-mounted power tools, and precision measuring tools. 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

• Spacecraft hardware experience (preferred) 
• Minimum of five years’ experience preferred 
• Demonstrated experience working with in fluid, fast-paced engineering design environment. 
• Experience preferred in fast-paced production environment with flight hardware. 
• Clean room experience is preferred. 
• Demonstrated experience and ability to read, interpret and follow: 
o Schematics, engineering drawings, circuit layouts, and parts list. 
o Cable harnesses: wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and parts lists. 
o Mechanical assemblies: mechanical drawings and parts lists. 
• Demonstrated experience fabricating harness and electro-mechanical assemblies and prototype development. 
• Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with engineering and production. 
• Proficient with computers and the ability to use Microsoft Office, shop floor management software such as ERP or other related programs.
