Johnson Service Group has an exciting entry-level lab opportunity to join our industry leading client in Norcross, GA. Our client specializes in bacteriology testing and the identification and prevention of Legionnaires Disease. Ideal applicants will be recent Biology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry graduates with 0-3 years of experience. Responsibilities:

  • Occasionally prepares microbiological media according to instructions from Media SOP’s and Media Batch Records. 
  • Labels media with appropriate identification and lot numbers.
  • Occasionally prepares, packages, and ships equipment and supplies (sample collection bottles, swabs, etc.) for customers. 
  • Assists bacteriology laboratory with plating of liquid and bulk samples for environmental bacterial analysis (i.e., heterotrophic plate counts, coliform analysis, and general / specific bacterial analyses).
  • Takes plate counts and evaluates types of bacterial colony growth (reading and picking) on bacterial air and bulk samples. Restreaks bacterial types for isolation.
  • Prepares and reads Gram stains.  Performs catalase and oxidase tests.  Inoculates and reads O/F King dextrose tubes.  Inoculates and reads Coagulase tests, Pseudomonas F/P tubes, API 20E’s, spore stains, flagella stains, Streptococcus tests, Catlin tests.
  • Assists with data entry.
  • Assists with naming of bacterial isolates.
  • Assists with packing up of outgoing jobs.

Other Lab Duties include:

  • Assists Bacteriology laboratory (on a daily or as needed basis) with activities that support plating of water and swab samples for Bacteriology analysis – laying out Bacteriology media, labeling agar plates, spread plating, bagging plates that are ready for incubation, and loading of plated media into incubators.
  • Assists mycology laboratory (as needed) with support activities.

Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related science field
  • Knowledge and experience of biochemical analysis (not molecular!)
