A leading supplier of equipment and services to the global cement and minerals industries, is seeking qualified candidates to fill a role as a Global Category Manager in the Bearings and Gear Boxes segment within Procurement. This position can sit in our Salt Lake City, UT or Bethlehem, PA office.

This position reports directly to the Head of Procurement - Mechanical Categories and Americas. The person will define the global category strategies for the Bearings and Gear Boxes spend to meet or exceed requirements regarding cost, time, and quality (incl. risks). Scope of work is global across all regions and business entities.  Travel will vary between 20% and 40%.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Create category strategies that align/support with business and product strategies
  • Identify savings opportunities and drive/oversee a pipeline of prioritized initiatives, in collaboration with Procurement Operations and business stakeholders to meet targets
  • Manage relationships with business stakeholders to obtain buy-in for and engagement in savings initiatives 
  • Become a valued business partner by providing strategic sourcing leadership to Procurement Operations, Product Line Management, Engineering and R&D.
  • Monitor, analyze and communicate demand and supply developments to ensure reliable supply of key strategic products required to meet customer needs
  • Own the relationship with key vendors and develop them into strategic partners to enable advanced initiatives, i.e. frame agreements and value engineering etc.


*BS Mechanical Engineering or other technical degree and/or applicable industry  experience (12 years preferred). MBA preferred

*15+ years direct experience in strategic sourcing and category management of  Mechanical spend areas, with some of that experience in Bearings/Gear Boxes spend.

*Procurement or Supply Chain Professional Certifications and/or  extensive equivalent  experience (12 years preferred) in Strategic Sourcing and Category Management

*Effective written and verbal communication and influencing skills, both internally with  customers, and the supplier community.

*Proven negotiations skills on high spend, technical spend categories.

*Spanish language skills a plus.

*Strong leadership, customer relationship and change management skills to engage  stakeholders, understand business requirements, identify opportunities, develop a  category business strategy and build support for strategy execution.

*Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships,  providing guidance, and instituting effective controls/monitoring processes.

*Strong Project Management skills – demonstrated ability to manage several critical  projects at the same time.

*Experience in mining/cement/resources related industries that provide machinery and  spare parts.

*Experience in advanced sourcing approaches.

*Ability to develop and analyze business cases, spend analytics, and financial models  and develop insights from the data.

*Technical knowledge of the Mechanical Categories spend areas with emphasis on  bearings and gear boxes. 

*Strong expertise in obtaining collaboration across a global organization spanning many   regions, divisions and business entities.
